I was idly flicking through old issues of i-D in M.Goldstein today and in a 1992 issue I came across this photo shoot by Pierre Rutschi, syled by Judy Blame and thought it relevant to post here today. Which is depressing. This was the time Le Pen was on the rise in France and across Europe there was a new racism rising on the streets, with violent attacks and anti-immigrant feeling on the rise despite the fact that the National Front’s numbers were falling and they were reduced to operating out of a semi-detached house in East London. Here again the ugly face of fascism is bubbling up once again and it seems we’ve either not moved forward in 15 years or we’re regressing somehow….either conclusion isn’t particularly hopeful.

The fantastic thing about the programme was that almost without exception the rest of the panel and audience deplored his hate-filled rhetoric and with dignity and logic made him look like the small, sad individual he is.
I was very proud to be British that night.
