Yes I am going to mention Nick Abrahams and Jeremy Deller’s film “The Posters Came From The Walls” again, since the screening for Frieze Art Fair at the Prince Charles off Leicester Square was such a wonderful, triumphant feel-good morning, and I was filled with pride to have such clever, creative friends and also, this being my second viewing, struck with what a poignant, special film it is. I’m also using Sarah Lee’s photos throughout this post. Brilliant photographer, her genius is such that she even manages to bring out Paul Gorman’s inner Richard Burton and effortlessly unleashes my Brooks point (a family trait which poor Duke has inherited and which as seen here cannot be restrained even by my other hand). Interesting example of two people taking photographs of the same subjects but one (Sarah) bringing poetry and light and the other (me) taking a snap. I’ll spare you mine for comparison, but check out her website if you get the chance – I’m even on there naked! – although don’t let that put you off……
Do go and see the movie. They have an art-house release later in the year and you’ll laugh (when you see your inner fan reflected back at you), cry (at how people with so little manage to live their dreams through the music of their heroes) and immediately want to go on iTunes to buy the Depeche Mode back catalogue!
As you can see, Sarah, Paul, Caz and I decamped to the Coach and Horses for an illicit Saturday afternoon drink with a side of sausagemeat (for them) and a selection of cheeses (for me). It’s lovely and quiet in there – of course it wasn’t on our table! – and I would recommend it as a little booze oasis should you find yourself up West caught in the headlights of Oxford Street.
