Today is an important day in the campaign to raise awareness about Asda’s shockingly poor record regarding the wages they pay the female garment workers in India who make their clothing.

By and large, the clothing manufacturing industry has been taking some (not enough) steps to improve, or at least be seen to be addressing the issue of the exploitation of their Third World work forces. As part of the world’s biggest retailer Walmart, if Asda were to respond to their critics by simply paying an extra 2p on a £4 t shirt, they would be making the difference between poverty and a respectable standard of living for these women. By doubling their salary. Shocking isn’t it that what to us are annoying coppers, to someone on the other side of the world would make such a difference?

The very least you could do today is boycott Asda. However, there are 3 simple ways to get a bit more involved that would take literally minutes and help to force Asda to take action.
